The most important aspect of your wardrobe choice is that you look and feel good in it! That said, there are a few things that will help to make sure YOU are the star of your photo - and not your top. It is best to avoid loud patterns, such as stripes and polkadots or busy floral prints. Logos should be avoided if possible as well. Ideally you want to choose solid colours that you look great in! If you are unsure, bring a few options and we can look through them together. Be sure your clothing has been pressed and is as wrinkle free as possible ( aka please don't bring them bunched up in a bag)! Hangers are your friend!
Less is more. If your ears are pierced, by all means wear earrings, but a simple stud is preferable to anything dangly. I recommend avoiding necklaces altogether as they can be distracting. If you have facial piercings - keep them in - they are apart of you 24/7 and I don't want to change that.
For women or anyone who normally wears makeup, I highly recommend using a trusted professional make-up artist for your shoot.* You can see a quick video on "why" I feel this is important in the FAQ's.
If you choose not to use a make-up artist please arrive make-up ready. I recommend natural looking shadows, blushes and lipstick. Mascara is a great way to define lashes. If you choose to wear false lashes - a natural looking set will photograph best.
* A make-up artist may be hired upon request for an additional fee.
If you have long /fine/frizzy/challenging hair - I feel your pain!
Hair can be the make all or break all in a headshot session. So if you fall into one of the mentioned categories, I strongly recommend you have your hair professionally styled before your shoot ( STYLED - not cut!).
If you have hired a MUA they can help you with hair touch-ups only - simple waves or curls, using hot appliances. But if you need volume or frizz relief - please consider having your hair styled first.
In addition to that - if you colour your hair - be sure to time your colouring with the booking of your headshot session so that your hair is the colour you want it to be in your photos and you don't have any unwanted greys/or root colours coming through.
If you wear glasses and have contacts, it would be great to use the contacts so that you may be photographed with and without your frames.
Lips - this is for everyone. Please use a lip balm/chapstick the day before and day of your shoot. Dry lips do not look great in photos and we want you to look better than great! So remember to use and bring: Lip Balm, Lip Balm, LIP BALM!
If you will be wearing make-up, it would be great of you could bring a powder or blotting paper for touchups and shine. Also, a comb or brush would be handy to bring for any hair touchups. And of course don't forget what? LIP BALM!
